Job Description
POSITION: (CUPE)
Registered Practical Nurse - One (1) Part Time

DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS:
Women's and Children Health System, Brampton Civic Hospital Main Site. Etobicoke General Hospital Secondary (Combined Care)

POSTING NUMBER: 140157

HOURS:
Currently, 8 &12 hour shifts, Days/Night Shift rotations, and weekends
(Subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

JOB SUMMARY:
o Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team to ensure high quality care
o Care of the mother and newborn throughout their antepartum/postpartum stay
o Teaching/assisting mother and newborn with breastfeeding
o Responsible for the provision of nursing care, teaching and coaching to patients and their families

QUALIFICATIONS:
o Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
o Able to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO
o Current NRP and CPR certificates required
o Intravenous and venipuncture skill set
o Medication Certificate and experience with administration of medication within the last year required
o Completed or willingness to complete the obstetrical and breastfeeding certificate from a recognized community college required
o Current Fetal Health Surveillance Certificate required
o Current antepartum and postpartum experience preferred
o Good understanding of breastfeeding and infant cues
o Experienced in assessment of the newborn and transitional care
o Completed or willingness to obtain Operating Room training in the role of scrub nurse.
o Current experience with managing post operative mother's and babies
o Experience with patient/family centered and partnership care models
o Must have effective interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem solving skills
o Reliable and flexible individual who is willing to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment
o Positive attendance and work record essential
o Responsible and accountable for the provision of nursing care in accordance with the standards of nursing practice and THC Best Practice Protocols with antepartum and postpartum clients and their families
o Establishing priorities and making ethically sound decisions to ensure safe patient centered care.
o Working within the framework of a collaborative model of patient care with other health care professionals.
o Documentation of patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of care
o Responding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient's health status


SALARY:

Minimum: $26.56 per hour
Maximum: $28..75 per hour
