RESOURCE NURSE FT
Resource Nurse - One (1) Full Time
Emergency - Etobicoke General Hospital
Currently, Days/Nights 12hrs
(Subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
" Current Registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
" BScN preferred
" A minimum of 5 years recent clinical practice experience in Emergency
" Possess clinical expertise and demonstrated exemplary clinical practice E.N.C.(C), ENPC, PALS, BCLS, ACLS and TNCC an asset
" Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning.
" Previous leadership experience and ability to develop frontline staff in their role as leaders on the Emergency Team
" Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
" Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication skills
" Ability to provide mentoring and guidance to the novice and experienced nurses in the Emergency Department
" Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict and problem solving with patients and families ensuring timely self reflection of staff involved
" Responsible for overseeing patient flow and departmental organization
" Excellent priority setting and organizational skills
" Demonstrated ability to facilitate positive change in a high acuity and fast paced environment.
" Excellent attendance and work record
" Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team
" Membership in professional organizations or related interest groups preferred
" May be required to travel between campuses to attend meetings
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the Team Leader in the ATC is to maximize patient flow in the area by assigning the patient to the most appropriate area and by ensuring orders and treatments are carried out in an organized and timely fashion.
" Receives the incoming charts and assigns patient placement
" Monitors the order box and assigns patient placement
" Keeps the ECG stretcher available at all times for patients requiring ECG's
" Ensures that patients requiring cardiograms are seen within 15 minutes of their arrival
" Ensures that patients are moved from stretchers and rooms after being seen by the physician and orders and treatments have been completed. Patients may be moved to chairs or put back into the waiting room to wait for test results.
" Liaises with physician to have patients seen or reassessed in a timely manner
" Liaises with the Team Leader on the major side and Clinical Care Leader to have patients requiring alternate level of care/admissions placed accordingly
" Addresses patient and family issues/complaints. If unable to solve, directs these concerns to the CCL.
" Assigns breaks and break coverage for the ATC
As a working member of the ATC team, the Resource Nurse is responsible for daily management and patient flow of the ATC in collaboration with the Clinical Care Leaders (Flow) through expert collaboration and cooperation. Act as consultant to the team regarding nursing practice issues related to the care of patients in the department. Function as a role model and resource to staff in clinical practice. Act as a consultant in collaboration with the Clinical Educator to the Patient Care Manager regarding the assessment of clinical performance of staff using advanced knowledge of practice standards. Reports to the Patient Care Manager.
