Strategic Communications Partner - Internal Communications
(Approximately 13-month contract to January 2015)


William Osler Health System is a hospital system 'Accredited with Exemplary Standing' that serves 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Etobicoke, and surrounding communities within the Central West Local Health Integration Network. Osler's emergency departments are among the busiest in Ontario and its labour and delivery program is one of the largest in Canada. William Osler Health System Foundation builds and fosters relationships in order to raise funds to support William Osler Health System's capital, education and research priorities at Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health & Wellness (targeted for completion in 2015-16).

As part of the Osler communications team, the Strategic Communications Partner - Internal Communications is responsible for implementing various communications responsibilities, including employee communications programs and vehicles, as well as corporate communications/reputation programs. This is an 18-month contract position which is to replace an employee secondment.

" Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar discipline
" 5 - 7 years of experience in corporate communications or public relations
" Superior writing skills, ability to take complex and clinical information and quickly translate it to compelling messages to reach varying audiences
" Experience in hospital or health care setting preferred
" Demonstrated experience in communicating complex issues to multiple audiences an asset
" Experience providing services to, working with, and influencing senior internal clients (professionals and leadership)
" Solid knowledge of marketing and public relations principles combined with superior writing and project management skills
" Ability to synthesize complex and sensitive material in order to craft persuasive recommendations and creative copy
" Desire to find creative solutions to barriers and turn challenges into opportunities
" Superior writing skills, ability to take complex and clinical information and quickly translate it to compelling messages to reach varying audiences
" Excellent critical thinking and judgment skills
" Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
" Proven ability to mentor and coach junior staff to grow into emerging leaders
" Ability to work on a broad scope of projects ranging from enterprise-wide initiatives to single-focus issues
" Ability to work and travel between all hospital sites

" Drive the development and implementation of a proactive internal communications plan including the creation and management of messages and themes to align stakeholders and employees. Ensure the alignment of internal communications to overall communications strategy
" Contributes thought leadership on internal communications best practices and participates in strategy development within the Strategic Communications portfolio, and within Osler
" Responsible for production and management of all internal communications, including executive communications, organization wide announcements, newsletters and other internal communications vehicles
" Monitors issues, emerging trends and themes in the community and within the organization and develops communications plans or counsels on how to manage these developments. Develops and implements proactive strategic plans aimed at specific audiences to address business issues or threats
" Establish metrics for the evaluation of communications efforts in order to measure impact around employer reputation management, overall brand awareness and positioning, as well as success in utilizing traditional and new/social media channels where appropriate
" Develop, implement and evaluate communications plans, products and strategies for issues management and stakeholder relations to address and respond to the needs of diverse internal (and external) audiences and to promote Osler programs and services in a proactive and positive manner, etc.
" Internal (print and electronic) news publications, core sections on OslerNet website, e-mail pushes/updates to employees and awards programs
" Manage communications for HR-related topics including corporate recruitment communications, new employee orientation, compensation and benefits communications, ethics, etc.
" Manage and/or contribute to communications programs, including corporate events, communications projects and initiatives
" Serve as a key team member in supporting/implementing major corporate branding activities, patient and family communications and executive communications
" Support employee engagement with Osler Foundation and Volunteer programs, fundraising activities and events
" Manage, mentor and coach junior level staff
