MANAGER - PAYROLL

Manager, Payroll - One (1) Full Time
Finance - Airport Road site
Reporting to the Financial Controller and supervising a staff of two, the Manager - Payroll is responsible for the bi-weekly preparation of payroll for approximately 4600 employees in a 24/7, fully-computerized, unionized, hospital environment.
" Plan, direct, and control the operations of the Payroll Department to ensure the accurate and timely processing and disbursement of the bi-weekly payroll, and ensure compliance with all legislative payroll reporting and remitting requirements
" Lead, coach, and develop a team of two Payroll Specialists to ensure efficient, effective, and customer-focused delivery of payroll services
" Manage all year end reporting requirements including T4 processing, EHT annual return, WSIB annual reconciliation, and HOOPP MDC Reporting
" Process payroll legislative updates and payroll-related Collective Agreement changes in Meditech Payroll/Personnel system
" Manage vacation year end process per HR Policy and Collective Agreement requirements
" Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet payroll accounts
" Prepare quarterly and ad hoc reports as required by Management, Finance, Human Resources, and other internal stakeholders
" Respond to all escalated inquiries from employees, managers, and other stakeholders
" Coordinate calculation and disbursement of retroactive payments and other special payments as required by HR compensation strategies and Collective Agreement settlements
" Approve payroll remittance cheques and other forms of payment according to guidelines and follow up with related issues
" Successful completion of a Business Administrative or Accounting Diploma or related discipline from a recognized Community College/University
" Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) from the Canadian Payroll Association
" 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience in a large organization, preferably in health care
" Working knowledge of Meditech Payroll/Personnel and Kronos time keeping an asset;
" Experience with Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) an asset;
" Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills (written and verbal);
" Demonstrated ability to take initiative; strong problem solving, organization, and analytical skills;
" Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
" Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
" Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions and to meet tight deadlines
" Ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings.
