JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the VP, Development and Information Technology, the Director will lead the Building, Engineering and Maintenance program for the hospital.


PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES/ONGOING ACCOUNTABILITIES:
" Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of the EGH Facilities Management and Plant Operations annual goals and objectives
o Ensures the hospital facilities meet legislated requirements including mechanical, electrical and emergency response systems
o Oversees the development of operational processes and develops systems and procedures to ensure an effective and efficient priority planning process and monitors progress towards achievement of goals
o Leads and facilitates the development of the annual operating plan, including the human resources and capital plans
o Collaborates with the capital planning team on the development and implementation of capital projects
" Leads the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives for the Facilities Management and Plant Operations department
o Ensures proper quality programs are designed and in place
o Established performance indicators, monitors outcomes on a regular basis and develops action plans as required to address quality improvement issues
o Coaches staff in the use of continuous quality improvement initiatives
o Provides leadership during accreditation to ensure requirements are completed in a timely and accurate manner
o Investigate and debrief incident reports related to Facilities and Plant Operations
" Directs the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of short and long term plans and strategies for the improvement in daily operations
o Monitors changing priorities, trends, legislative requirements, etc. and analyze their potential impact to goals and objectives
o Develops, implements and monitors day-to-day operating policies and procedures
o Collaborates in the development and implementation of the longer-term strategic planning and directions of the site
" Provides leadership and direction in the management of the day-to-day operations of the department
" Provides leadership and direction in the management of the aspects of the departmental human resources
o Leads and supports strategies for the development of a high quality, motivated and cohesive team to support the facility including the development of recruitment and retention strategies for staff
o Leads and supports the management team to ensure effective and productive functioning of services and the achievement of goals and objectives
o Conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, addresses performance issues and provides ongoing coaching and feedback in a positive and supportive manner
o Manages with the assistance of the manager, labour relations issues, including grievances, decision making for disciplinary action and fair and consistent resolution of issues consistent with Osler policies
" Provides leadership and direction in the management of the departmental finances and maintains full accountability for the development and maintenance of the departmental budget
o Develops annual operating plans and capital plans for the department in collaboration with finance
o Approves major expenditures within approved limits
o Monitors, analyzes and reconciles variances from approved plan on a monthly basis
o Identifies and develops strategies to streamline operations, improve services and reduce costs
o Prepares and presents financial reports to senior management as required
" Collaborates with senior management and peers to support and advance Osler's vision, mission and strategic directions
o Develops effective relationships with internal peers to implement strategic initiatives and to represent the department to contribute to corporate initiatives
o Develops relationships with external professional associations and peers across the industry to maintain and improve knowledge of emerging trends, developments and legislation and assess impacts to Osler operations

QUALIFICATIONS:
" Completion of a University/College program in Building Systems Maintenance, Facilities Maintenance/Engineering or related discipline required
" Minimum 5 to 10 years previous management experience in maintenance and/or plant operations of a Hospital/Healthcare facility required
" Business management coursework an asset
" Excellent strategic planning and leadership and project management skills
" Ability to think strategically at the global organizational level, the site and departmental level
" Broad knowledge of overall hospital structure, operating policies and procedures and decision-making processes
" Knowledge of management principles and application of such on a daily basis
" Knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices
" Knowledge of Computer Maintenance Management Systems, Building Automation Systems, Fire Systems and other facilities management software applications
" Broad understanding of and sensitivity toward the multilingual and multicultural diversity of Osler staff, patients and clients
" Ability to adapt to change, to implement changes and to facilitate change management throughout department and organization as needed
" Excellent problem recognition, analytical and problem solving skills
" Excellent judgement and decision-making skills
" Excellent organizational and time management skills
" Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
" Ability to multitask effectively, i.e. handle a large number of diverse issues simultaneously
