Job Description

POSITION: 1 Occupational Therapists - Part-time (0.2 FTE)

DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS: Corporate Occupational Therapist


HOURS: 2 week-ends per month/alternate week-ends, with opportunity to cover Monday to Friday relief day shifts,
(subject to change in accordance with operational requirements).

" BSc or MHSc in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent
" Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
" Membership in CAOT and/or OSOT preferred
" Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension)
" Recent experience in adult physical medicine
" Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to general medicine,surgical and rehabilitation clients.
" Experience with psychosocial, cognitive, perceptual and physical health-related assessment
and intervention skills addressing occupational performance
" Experience with splinting, and seating/positioning an asset
" Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with excellent time management and organizational skills required
" Ability to delegate and supervise an Occupational Therapy Assistant required
" Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
" Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
" Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practitioners, in consultation with the Program Manager and Professional Leader of Occupational Therapy, the successful candidate will provide quality, client-centred, occupational therapy services throughout William Osler Health System. He/she must be able to work independently and as a contributing member of each interdisciplinary treatment team, provide coverage on the medical and surgical units on Saturday and Sunday at either site. There is also the opportunity to cover week-day OT vacations. You will provide direct patient care, including education to patients and families, and consultation within the patient care team. Utilizing formal and informal assessments you will determine the physical, cognitive-perceptual and functional status of patients, and plan and implement interventions utilizing an evidence-based approach to maximize the patient's overall functioning and supporting successful discharge. Intervention may include recommendation of equipment, including wheelchair seating, teaching adapted strategies for ADL and IADL, fabricating splints, and making recommendations regarding the level of support required upon discharge. You will share in the supervision of an OTA, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, committees and quality initiatives in the program and OT team as needed. You will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the COTO.
