Nurse Practitioner - Acute Pain Service
Master of Science in Nursing
Nurse Practitioner (NP) - One (1) Full Time
Surgical Services, Acute Pain Service- Brampton Civic Hospital
(Subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
" Masters Degree in Nursing / ACNP / Current extended class registration RN (EC) required with CNO
" Five years nursing experience working in a large community hospital, surgical experience an asset.
" Exemplary nursing clinical skills, knowledge and expertise, especially in surgery and analgesia.
" Demonstrated patient/family teaching and staff education skills
" Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills
" Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and organizational abilities
" Excellent interpersonal skills with all members of the team including physicians, patients and families
" Evidence of well developed conflict management skills
" Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues with families and staff
" Evidence of initiative in ongoing knowledge development and reflective practice
" Proficiency in computer skills and data management required (e.g. Excel. Word. Access)
" Ability to produce reports for demonstration of clinical indicators, volumes and trends
" Fluent in English (comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking)
The NP will demonstrate a high level of autonomy and expert skill in formulating clinical decisions and appropriately managing the acute pain needs of a population of post-operative patients. In collaboration with Anesthesiologists and other physicians, the NP will assess, document and manage the post-operative patient's pain management treatment plan, abiding by the practice standards for an NP set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario (2009). The principle responsibilities may include: utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competencies, collecting and interpreting data about the health and pain management needs of the patient; providing follow-up/treatment goals in collaboration with the Acute Pain Service physician; participating in policy and procedure, order set or medical directive development activities/programs; acting as resource and providing educational support to patients and families through participation in pre operative total joint replacement class. The Acute Pain Service NP will work with the clinical educator to provide orientation and ongoing educational support regarding all aspects of the Acute Pain Service and post-operative pain management to the Surgical Services clinical staff.
This position is accountable to the Director of Surgery and Ambulatory Care and the Corporate Chief of Anesthesia.
